The SSA Scam
Kolkata Sector 5 is the telephone scam capital of the world. Although I’ve reported lots of scam call centers there, nothing seems to happen. So what could be better than turning up at these call centers armed with (harmless) devices which will get the attention of these scam groups and hopefully the rest of the world.
Thanks to the engineering skills of Mark Rober and the to Trilogy Media who made the trip to India to confront the scammers themselves, we managed to film a set of pranks via the scammers’ own CCTV cameras.
Although this is having some fun at the expense of scammers, this is a serious problem. Millions of dollars are lost to these scammers and the police in Kolkata do very little to shut down these call centers, so it would be great if people shared these videos and tweeted @KolkataPolice
Let’s hope we can make a “shut down” video before long. In the meantime, enjoy….
